Throughout history, traditional knowledge organization systems have often inadvertently reinforced oppressive structures, particularly in matters pertaining to race, gender, sexuality, and feminist studies.

The primary objective of COEXISTENCE is to systematically categorize, structure, and disseminate terms, concepts, and theories that empower us as scholars, information professionals, activists, educators, and opinion leaders. By doing so, we aim to contribute to the collective effort towards a fairer and more egalitarian world. This undertaking is essential in fostering a comprehensive understanding and progressive discourse in the academic and societal domains. </dc:description> <dc:publisher>Maria Aparecida Moura</dc:publisher>

<ThesaurusConcept dc:identifier="http://mamoura.eci.ufmg.br/tematres/vocab/xml.php?skosTema=945">	<dcterms:created>2018-03-14 07:52:48</dcterms:created><PreferredTerm dc:identifier="http://mamoura.eci.ufmg.br/tematres/vocab/xml.php?skosTema=945" xml:lang="en-US">	<LexicalValue>Cultural Representations</LexicalValue>	<dcterms:created>2018-03-14 07:52:48</dcterms:created></PreferredTerm><ScopeNote xml:lang="en-US"> <LexicalValue>
Cultural representations refer to popular stereotypes, images, frames and narratives that are socialized and reinforced by media, language and other forms of mass communication and “common sense.” Cultural representations can be positive or negative, but from the perspective of the dismantling structural racism analysis, too often cultural representations depict people of color in ways that are dehumanizing, perpetuate inaccurate stereotypes, and have the overall effect of allowing unfair treatment within the society as a whole to seem fair, or ‘natural.’
